ABP is a winner at the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival

Royal Albert Dock developer ABP was among the medal winners at the annual London Dragon Boat Festival when its corporate team beat off strong competition to take the silver medal.

More than 10,000 people lined the water’s edge at the Royal Albert Dock to see more than 30 Dragon Boat teams taking part along with a festival of music and entertainment with an Asian theme in what has become one of London’s signature cultural events.

Despite having only limited practice time, the newly formed ABP team quickly set a high standard winning the first 2 races to qualify for the semi-final in a hard fought contest with a range of professional and semi-professional Dragon Boat race teams, including one team that has recently competed in Beijing.

The Dragon Boat Festival was successfully organised by London Chinatown Lions Club and the Hong Kong Executives Club. Originating in China, dragon boating has a long Chinese history dating back more than 2,000 years and has spread throughout the world.

The ABP London team was put together by ABP Royal Albert Dock office manager, Richard Chan, who took part in the event several years ago. On that occasion his boat capsized but this time he proved to be a winner.

John Miu, Executive Director of ABP says “The Dragon Boat Festival brings the east and west culture in London closer together and strengthens the bonds between us. Our ABP paddlers demonstrated great strength and energy in the race and I am very proud of our excellent performance.”

ABP also used the event to promote the Asian Business Port, London’s next financial district at Royal Albert Dock, and put a scale model of the development on display.

The London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival was supported by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, and attracts up to 10,000 attendees each year.

ABP (China) Holdings Group Ltd was founded in 2003 and has forged a reputation for developing large scale enterprise districts. In May 2013, it was announced that ABP had acquired the land at Royal Albert Dock to build a mixed use development of offices with supporting retail and residential units.

The company is an established developer across China with a track record of investing and transforming areas in need of regeneration with significant projects that allow companies to thrive and prosper. It has a number of other large scale projects under construction and on track in China, including developments in Shenyang and Qingdao.
